The Hudson Mohawk RC&D Council, along with 375 councils across the United States, enjoys a unique partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS). Basic support is provided to Councils through a RC&D Coordinator, part time Secretary, office space and supplies, and a vehicle. This basic assistance allows the RC&D Councils to focus their efforts on improving their communities through project implementation rather than fundraising for base operations. Nationally, an annual appropriation for direct support to the RC&D program is made by Congress.
The RC&D Coordinator serves as the liaison between USDA and the RC&D Council and is responsible for supervising USDA staff assigned to the RC&D Office. The Coordinator ensures that all federally assisted activities are carried out in accordance with applicable USDA program statutes in support of the RC&D Area Plan. Duties of the Coordinator include: helping the Council revise, update, and implement the RC&D Area Plan, helping the RC&D Council develop an inventory of projects worthy of receiving technical or financial assistance, helping with the grant writing process including project scope, budget, contracts, project follow-up, etc, helping the Council identify prospective Federal and non-Federal funding sources, overseeing and performing activities required of specific projects, and providing day-to-day direction for the implementation of the Council's Area Plan and Annual Plan of Work.
Elizabeth Marks has served as the Hudson Mohawk RC&D Coordinator since 2005. Mary Ackley has served as the Council Secretary since 2002.
